Day 3
Last night’s dinner was served in the garden. Bread, salad, chicken, and flan. Everything but the flan got salted. And a 2-liter bottle of water.
Sleeping the dorm wasn’t great but I was grateful to have a bed. The dorm quieted about midnight and the local roosters woke me just after 6.
The route today was thru an industrial area – however they’ve added a pedestrian footbridge just prior to entering León. Before we had to go up over a hill and down the backside on a rocky slope. This was much safer.
I stopped late morning and got the Spanish version of a tuna melt.

I miss the little stork families that were in all the nests last time.

I met a few English-speaking pilgrims today and it was nice to chat along the way.
The old part of León is quaint and historical.

Checked into the Benedictine alburgue. I stayed here last time.
Feeling a bit exhausted and hoping for siesta before tapas. There is no pilgrim dinner here due to Covid.
Hi pilgrim. Every where looks empty in your pictures . Is that just the time of day, did they know that you were coming, or has the population of small Spanish towns dwindled. I guess just like the pilgrimage of life we have to walk through industrial bits and when we do we are grateful for bridges that bypass the worst of it! Fewer pilgrims on the route this time due to Covid do you think? Have a restful siesta and a tapas treat. Cheering you on.
Mostly the time of day. Sensible people aren’t out in the heat. Though if you enlarge that last photo you’ll see a little lady with her morning shopping about to enter her home.
Overall there are far fewer pilgrims this trip due to Covid. That should change a bit when I hit Sarria.
