Negreira to Olveiroa

Day 32

This morning, first thing, fog rolled in and looked lovely in the eucalyptus forests.

First Coffee was at the only cafe for the first three hours.  I splurged on a proper egg / potato breakfast because I seemed to remember the area ahead was also sparse on cafes.

This lovely horse was in the field next to the cafe and I was so glad to have remembered to get carrots at the market last night. So was she.

I refilled my water bottles there and then about 3:00 we passed a lady doing some gardening and she sweetly agreed to fill our bottles from the garden hose. Funny enough – she pegged me immediately as being of Swedish decent.  First time it’s come up this trip, I think.

When I say ‘we’ that would be myself and Richard, a young pilgrim from San Diego. We met last night at the albergue and he stopped at the same cafe this morning. I asked him his Camino story and we compared stories and life notes over the next six hours of walking. I’m a notoriously slow walker – so I’m sure this meant he had to consciously slow down to carry on the conversation. Extremely kind of him to do. I was so grateful for the great conversation and company.

Today was a 34 km day…on purpose. This afternoon the walk felt a bit like I was on a treadmill and like the numbers on the trail markers were going the wrong direction.  The situation was not helped by the fact that most of the countryside was corn, corn, and …when you’re tired of that… more corn.

Richard stopped in the albergue the town prior about 4:30 and I carried on another 4 km. I had no reservation but it was the stage end. And Future Marilyn will thank me tomorrow for getting the last four km of the day behind me today.  The last four traversed… more corn.

When I reached the town I was really tired so I veered off into the first available albergue. There’s time for research and there’s time to take the first shower and bed available.  Today was the latter.

Pilgrim’s meal tonight – then early night.

More later…

PS. View from dinner. Surprise! Corn.

  1. Hope it was not corn for dinner! I can see where you are on the map. That was a long days walking. Looks like you will be striking NW to Muxia. Keep going pilgrim
