Day 22
Today was an uphill climb up the mountain just passed Astorga. Beautiful mountain views.

I was with a small group of friends off and on all day. It was so nice to have people to walk with, even if we weren’t side by side all day. Just knowing we were looking out for each other was comforting. It was also nice to stop with others for coffee and juice along the way. Some of the older small towns we passed thru were quite picturesque.

Along the way I also had the chance to hold a bird of prey. Her name is Julie.

I’d called ahead for a reservation for a place at the top of the mountain that offered yoga, a fireplace, vegetarian options,,and a moderately hippie atmosphere. Everything listed sounded perfect. When we arrived, the sleeping places that were left were a couple top bunks in an un air conditioned attic in which they didn’t want the windows opened. I barely slept last night so, seeing this, I walked out and found another place. They can keep my 9€ for future upgrades. I felt really badly for others who had booked in at the same place – but I really hope they’ll be able to get some rest.
I had a big bowl of veggie soup in a cafe for dinner.
Tomorrow morning is the cross on the hill. There was talk of rising early to see the sun rise over the mountains at the cross. My alarm is set.
More later…
