Day 3
Slept well last night and woke up back in the land of thick, heavy duvets, electric towel warmers, and serious, proper kettles. It was a good place to be.
This morning the rain had stopped and after having coffee in the room and getting ready I checked out of the hotel. The hotel clerk mentioned they’re expecting a heat wave in Dublin in the next couple days. I asked what a heatwave is in Dublin and she said 25C (77F). 😶 It’s all relative. Temps in Chicago today are expected to be in the 90s and I heard from a friend that there were tornadoes in the area yesterday. Just sayin’.
I was going to forego breakfast and just eat on the plane this afternoon but then I saw a sign at the airport cafe of a proper ‘fry up’…
…. and I remembered what airplane food is typically like, so, I stopped for an abbreviated version. Sausage, beans, and toast. It was lovely and the perfect thing until my next meal materialized.
Good call.
We were a couple hours late out of Dublin due to an equipment malfunction. We were on the way to the runway when they discovered the issue and we returned to the gate so the mechanics could replace the part. I’m of the frame of mind that if there’s something wrong with the plane that causes a few hours delay so it can be repaired – I’m going to just thank God they found it while we were still on the ground. We were able to take off at a reasonable time. And I got to rewatch the first season of the West Wing while in the air. That, my friends, is some great script writing
We did the transatlantic crossing inside of 10 hours from the projected departure time. This trip wasn’t even a fathomable just a few centuries ago. And only done by sea by my immigrant ancestors. The fact that there are dozens & dozens of transatlantic crossings by air every day is a modern miracle.
Landed at O’Hare. It’s hot here, as expected. But, good to be home.
Questions welcome. 🙂
More later…
