Day 29
We decided to get on the trail early (about 6am) to get a head start before dawn. The hope was to see stars as well but it was another foggy morning. There was a lot of uphill climbing leading out of the port valley. Along the way my friend Enzo took this picture of me at the top of a hill from a distance. I thought it was quite artistic.
One might think that after all these days on the road things like flowers in walls and cows in fields would have lost a bit of their luster – but I’m still in awe at the beauty of this country.
We’re nearing the end of the trek and today our little foursome adjusted our individual plans to better suit our individual goals. Patrick (from France) headed out for a long day -hoping to make over 50k by day’s end. Enzo, Joanne, and I stayed together to Palas del Rei. I decided to stay here and take a break this afternoon and to try to savor the last few days of walking. They’ll continue on and we’ll reconvene in Santiago. Before leaving, Enzo chatted with some Italian gentlemen who are walking to Santiago all the way from Rome. They’ve been on the road over 3 months. He got their recommendation for a place for me to stay and we all said farewell before I headed to that location.
After getting my housekeeping sorted I was stunned to walk out into the hall and see Kim and Gary, my friends from Belfast. I haven’t seen them for a couple weeks. We were able to catch up a bit before dinner. Well catch up more along the road. Glad to know they’re okay and almost to Santiago as well.
Early night.
More later…
